Lawrence "Slim"'s Story
I graduated from Barstow High School in 1949. I attended Sul Ross State College and graduated in 1953. I was soon drafted into the Army and spent almost two years in Japan. After being mustered out of the Army I moved to California and attended Santa Barbara State Univirsity for the summer. While there I was offered a teaching positon at Sacramento City Unified School District in Sacramento, CA where I taught for 33 years until I retired. i attended summer school at Santa Barbara the following summer where I met my wife, Marj, who was also teaching in the Sacramento area.. bout a year later. We built our own house, in which we still live. We had one child, a boy. He and his wife live in Ithaca, NY where he attended Cornell University and she works. We bought a 26 foot sail boat and spent many wonderful hours sailing the Sacramento river delta and San Francisco Bay. After we both retired we bought a 5th wheel trailer and have traveled all over the US, Canada and parts of Mexico. Though I just turned 80 I am in good health and we continue to travel. My wife and I have visited Barstow and Pecos many times over the last 50+ years. Slim Daughhetee, Carmichael, CA.
